With a handheld digital video camera and an old Dell computer, I began filmmaking in the summer of 2005. I’m lucky to spend so much time in Whistler, British Columbia, where for two summers I lugged camera gear up the Bike Park’s chairlifts daily, shooting bits and pieces of mountain biking with my friends. By 2007, I developed strong friendships with many of Whistler’s talented local riders; after seeing my shots from previous summers, they were eager to produce a movie with me that was substantial, and rivaled other professional biking movies available to a widespread audience. The outcome was “Livin’ the Dream”, released online in Fall 2007

At the time, I was finishing high school in Toronto, Ontario, and I shot footage for the film during my intermittent trips to Whistler while piecing together the final product in between homework and extracurricular commitments. I was greeted with success, as a shortened version of the film was voted into the Top 25 Showcase at the Toronto Student Film Festival, and the movie won the Festival’s prestigious award for Best Cinematography.

This past summer, my goal was to begin the process of creating a more in-depth, high quality movie that ventured to more locations around British Columbia. Currently in the post-production stages, “On the Line” represents a growth from my handheld digital video camera from three summers past to my newfound desire to share my passion for mountain biking through film with an international audience.

Having moved to Whistler permanently this summer, I am attending the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. Being so close to Whistler, Pemberton, Squamish, Sun Peaks, Silverstar, and so many other mountain biking locales has provided me with much more room to experiment with new stunts, trails, shots, and storylines.

“On the Line” will be released online for free to download in Spring 2009, and plans have already been set in motion to create something bigger, better, and far different than anything we have ever attempted for next year’s film.
